Fileteados Porteños (Bars)

Location
Defensa 1000
An antique shop used to operate on this corner. Today it is a bar, an ideal place to go for a drink while you walk down Defensa street. Its name ("Fileteados" is a kind of local decorative painting and "Porteño" means "from Buenos Aires") is interesting and it's no coincidence. There are "fileteados" everywhere: on the red screen lamps that provide faint lighting to each table, on the wooden tables, the witty phrases written on the counter and on the windows and doors. Even the signs on the bathroom doors are made with "fileteados." When you see them, you should know that "fileteado" is a decorative art that was typical in the La Boca and San Telmo districts, where the artists used stylized shapes and intense colors. It was created in the cart factories in the early 20th century and later used on trucks and on buses. You will see them on the line 29 buses that go down Defensa street. The artist that made the "fileteados" in this bar is Adrián Clara.
