This bar is located in front of Lezama Park and is a true survivor of modern times. As indicated on a sign painted with “filetes” (a typical Argentine decorative painting) in one of the windows, this bar dates back to 1904. Inside there are old grappa, apéritif and beer advertisements surrounded by hams and salami hanging from the ceiling. The area is divided into small boxes. In one of them, a girl is writing and looking out of the window. Near her a couple is kissing and on the other side of the display case there is a chess table surrounded by chess fans that are mesmerized by their game. And all this goes on in a quiet environment that is characteristic of traditional Buenos Aires bars.

Qué buen bar, cuánta magia que hay en esas mesitas de madera! Un lugar increíble, con su cerveza tirada, sus picadas, su ajedrez y su buenísima gente. Qué grande don Beto poniéndose al hombro el salón lleno, derrochando buena onda, esmero y generosidad en la atención mientras corre y transpira la camisa. Una maravilla el Hipopótamo. Cuánta historia y nostalgia tiene! El mejor bar de San Telmo, de los que no se dolarizaron y nunca lo harán!

A mi entender, entre la relación precio, calidad, lugar, tradición y demás...el mejor bar de San telmo.

cuantos recuerdos me trae esta nota,solia encontrarme con mi novio en esa esquina hace mas de 20 anos atras
pero cambiaron un poco el cartel ahi vi a leon gieco.
