Martineano Arce is the "Fileteador" of Buenos Aires. "Fileteador" is an artist that makes "filetes," a popular artwork consisting of a typical style of decorative painting that, together with Tango and Mate, is a symbol of our culture. We should mention that the word "filete" comes from the latin "filum" (thread) and means "fine decorative line." Its English, French and Italian equivalents are fillet, filet and filetto, respectively. "Filetes" from Buenos Aires were first made for the decoration of carts used by green-grocers, milkmen and bakers and were later used on other horse-driven vehicles and then on trucks and buses. This is how Martiniano started off, by painting filetes on carts as a child and then on trucks and buses. He later applied this technique to painting on canvas. Walking into his workshop is like entering a fairytale world in which every brushstroke makes dragons, flowers and other famous characters from Argentine tradition, such as Gardel, Troilo and Rivero, come to life. Martiniano even used this technique to paint his own coffin with his epitaph in "lunfardo" (Argentine dialect): "The guy was resting happily, he was not warmly dressed, they painted his smile on his "jonca" (lunfardo for coffin) with filetes."

Hace unos meses empece a ir a un atelier del profesor Raul Rolfi,desde que comence recien ahi me di cuenta lo bello y placentero que es pintar es como si fuera que nada a tu alrededor te importara estas tan concentrado que perdes hasta la nocion del tiempo.Lo que hace usted es tan hermoso, le comento que tengo una foto donde esta usted,mi tio Alberto Arce y mi primo Jorge Arce,ellos fallecieron el año pasado y desde ese momento lo unico que tengo de ellos es esa imagen ,recuerdo que un dia en la casa de mi tio,el me lleva al living y me hace sentarme junto a el y me dijo: te voy a mostrar algo que se que a vos te gusta mucho y saca de un cajon un dibujo hermoso hecho por usted, me empezo a comentar su historia a mostrarme fotos de usted y veia en sus ojos la admiracion que el tenia para con usted la verdad que ese fue un dia muy especial para mi,es por eso que usted por su apellido y su arte me hace acordar a el algun dia ire a conocerlo personalmente y espero que sea pontro le agradezco por leer este mensaje le saluda atte.Gladys Pereira.

Que se puede agregar sobre MARTINIANO ARCE; si con solo ver sus OBRAS esta todo dicho.- A un grande del arte no lo puede analizar nadies; unicamente se lo observa; se lo admira y se lo imita. Yo este año si DIOS quiere empieso a aprender FILETEADO en la ciudad de OLAVARRIA, un taller que se abre el dia 8/04/2011, fundado por la Municipalidad. Pero¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡COMO ME GUSTARIA SER ALUMNO DE MARTINIANO ARCE!!!!!!!Tal vez un deseo dificil de conseguir.- Un saludo/abrazo Maestro de Maestros
