El General (Restaurants)

As you can imagine, its name is related to General Juan Domingo Perón and the Peronist movement. El General is a theme restaurant - as its owners prefer to call it - "for all the 'compañeros' (a name similar in use to the word "comrade" used to refer to the members of the Peronist movement) in Argentina." We know the place is frequently visited by union leaders and different political figures who represent sectors of the conflictive Peronist movement that are frequently at odds and who miraculously share this restaurant in harmony. But this is not the only interesting thing to see: this place has some relics that are probably not found in any other part of the world. From vinyl records with old tangos from those times or the Peronist march, even the legendary Puma motorcycle, busts of Perón, an old flag of the Peronist party, newspapers from those times and election posters. There are also chandeliers from the past century and tangos from the 50s and the TV screens show the news program Sucesos Argentinos (Argentine Events) in black and white, with videos of Perón. The menu was designed to be consistent with the environment: it includes shepherd's pie, the General's favorite dish and "Parquet grilled meat," in reference to the Peronists who were said to burn the parquet wood to make barbecue. The only "privileged" people here are the children, who get free dessert. Now, they should probably know who Perón is and agree with his opinions...
