This museum was inaugurated in 1980 and is located in a building from the 18th century, which has been used since then as a mental asylum, a powder magazine and a women's jail. In its rooms you will see weapons, uniforms worn by the staff of the Federal Jail Service throughout the years, works made by the interns and furniture and photographs of the former Tierra del Fuego Jail, among other things. The best part of the museum is the room that includes items that belonged to the prisoners, which had been collected by the guards "requisitions," that is, surprise operations carried out in order to seize their handmade weapons and other devices. Knives and swords made with pieces of iron are exhibited along with handmade bombs, saws hidden in books and shoes, messages rolled up in cigarettes and even marihuana pipes and tattoo needles. The star of the collection is an enormous gun made of iron tubes and springs with its own bullets.
