A restaurant located in a unique and historic place: an Old Hotel. Just a little historical information to set the right mood: this two-story building dates back to 1860 and includes 66 rooms and beautiful Spanish patios. The hotel\'s story of immigrants full of expectations did not last long, since during the yellow fever epidemic the rooms were used to treat the ill and the Old Hotel became a hospital. It was later used as a “conventillo” (a tenement for poor families in the early 20th century) and a boarding house. More recently, in 1980, it became a center for art, culture and music, where you would find antique dealers and ateliers. Another significant piece of information is that it was declared a place of Touristic Interest by the government of the City of Buenos Aires. The restaurant is located in one of the rooms and in the patios. Its main specialty is Argentine-style grilled meat. You can try Argentine meat here, but do not forget the “provoleta” (grilled Provolone cheese), a classic at Argentine barbecues on Sundays. You can order it “a la pizzaiola” (with tomato and oregano sauce) or “al viejo hotel” (grilled provolone cheese with ham, tomato, black olives and garlic). The desserts are homemade-style and include typical local sweet pies (“pastelitos criollos”), a variety of sweets in syrup, delicious flans and cakes. It is one of the best places in the district to have lunch or dinner in the open air on warm days.
